I have been involved in team sports from a young age and started playing lacrosse at age eight. All of my athletic experiences have taught me the importance of working with a team, collaborating, communicating, and being a leader. The skills and time commitment that have come from sports have helped me to be successful in academic and professional settings.
I understand the importance of establishing trust among my colleagues and teammates so I am able to produce the best results. It has also allowed me to learn how to both deliver constructive criticism and better accept it myself so I can grow as a person. The communication skills I have developed from lacrosse have also helped me gain confidence in my public speaking and be able to identify other people’s strengths. Lacrosse has taught me that an effective leader is willing to put the needs of the team above their own to achieve optimal success and I have always found this lesson to be extremely valuable. Finally, being a collegiate-level athlete has given me time management skills. I have learned that I am someone who works the most efficiently when under a strict and regimented schedule. Therefore, this experience has prepared me for a challenging career that fosters a fast-paced environment, as those are the circumstances in which I thrive.
