Problem-Solving Skills

In my “Business and Society” class, we completed eight case studies over the semester that involved different problem-solving scenarios occurring in the workplace. Some of the topics of these case studies included a mom deciding if she would step away from her start-up, the effects of bias in the workplace, and the importance of speaking up in the workplace. We would read the case studies evaluate the described situations as a class and assess the potential solutions presented at the end of each case. We would then conduct a three-page write-up analyzing the situation and the solutions presented in the case where we would need to defend the position we took to solve the case study.

We also frequently needed to create our own alternative solutions not mentioned in the case study. One case study focused on a woman potentially changing her job location due to an in-office relationship that ended poorly and began causing distractions for her in the workplace. In the case write-up, which I have attached below, I discuss what I believe is the best course of action for her to take while also analyzing and evaluating all the solutions she coined independently. Completing these assignments throughout the semester helped me develop my problem-solving skills as I often had to weigh out the pros and cons of the various situations I was presented with and ultimately find the ideal way to solve the problem at hand in the case. All of the cases applied to business and workplace culture, so practicing these problem-solving skills through these assignments will be helpful to me as I am about to enter the workforce.
